THE CHARACTERISTICS OF POETRY

By poetry we mean modern poetry, because not only have we a special and intimate understanding of the poetry of our age and time, but we look at the poetry of all ages through the mist of our own. Poetry And Its Types

Poetry is a compact language that expresses complex feelings. To understand the multiple meanings of a poem, readers must examine its words and phrasing from the perspectives of rhythm , sound , images , obvious meaning, and implied meaning. Readers then need to organize responses to the verse into a logical, point-by-point explanation. A good beginning involves asking questions that apply to most poetry. When studying poetry, it is useful first of all to consider the theme and the overall development of the theme in the poem. Obviously, the sort of development that takes place depends to a considerable extent on the type of poem one is dealing with. It is useful to keep two general distinctions in mind (for more detailed definitions consult Abrams 1999 and Preminger et al 1993): lyric poetry and narrative poetry. Lyric Poetry A lyric poem is a comparatively short, non-narrative poem in which a single speaker presents a state of mind or an emotional state. Lyri...

After leaving secondary school he joined Duroladipo’s therapy company, but soon discovered that he had no talent for acting. He attended Ulli Beiers’s-extra-mural-writers workshop in Oshogbo, and followed his advance to writing in English rather than in Yoruba. Apart from the plays in this volume he has written some shirt stories (he is not very satisfied with the results) and several other plays, including one in Pidgin, the fall of man, especially written for theatre express. The Lagos-based theatre group, Chinwenma (1972). The drama is played on stage in the theatre. Analyzing Characters In Animal Farm Literature has many styles or diction and the book animal farm has a simple style. Setting is the geographical area, the specific period and the specific environment in which role leadership plays in bringing about change. Even though the animals on manor farm endure a life of misery for so long under Jones without complaining, it is that they enjoy their condition, they just have no idea what to do about it. It is just the leadership of just one person, Old Major, to rouse and give them a completely new perspective on life. It is this which topples Jones. Hence this academic writing will outline all the characters (human, animal, major and minor) used in ‘Animal Farm’ and explore how George Orwell uses them to symbolize characters and events in real life. For Jones ,   Selfishness has always been at the root of most social and political upheaval all over the world and throughout history and his behavior is highlighted in animal ...
